  10.  AB    OBJECTIVE: Study of operational performances of various types of ELISA
  11.        kits obtained on sera from infantile population in Romania in the
  12.        National Reference Centre, Cantacuzino Institute. METHODS: The study was
  13.        carried out on 1000 sera: each group of 500 sera was tested on two ELISA
  14.        kits, the indirect type (VIRONOSTIKA-ORGANON, HIV1 env Peptide
  15.        EIA-LABSYSTEMS and respectively RAPID ELAVIA MIXT--PASTEUR and
  16.        RECVIH--CUBA) and on one competitive ELISA kit (WELLCOZYME HIV1 Rec type
  17.        VK 56/57 WELLCOZYME). The confirmatory investigation was carried out by
  18.        western-blot (Diagnostic Biotechnology Du-Pont) using WHO criteria.
  19.        RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: Sera from
  20.        Romanian subjects were correctly detected by ELISA kits under
  21.        consideration, similar O.C. with those reported by WHO laboratories
  22.        being obtained. In case of out-of-date kits validation is not a
  23.        sufficiently reliable criterium for their use (too many obtained results
  24.        are found in the grey zone and an exceedingly high dispersion of data is
  25.        reported when delta values are calculated).
