AB OBJECTIVE: Study of operational performances of various types of ELISA
kits obtained on sera from infantile population in Romania in the
National Reference Centre, Cantacuzino Institute. METHODS: The study was
carried out on 1000 sera: each group of 500 sera was tested on two ELISA
kits, the indirect type (VIRONOSTIKA-ORGANON, HIV1 env Peptide
EIA-LABSYSTEMS and respectively RAPID ELAVIA MIXT--PASTEUR and
RECVIH--CUBA) and on one competitive ELISA kit (WELLCOZYME HIV1 Rec type
VK 56/57 WELLCOZYME). The confirmatory investigation was carried out by
western-blot (Diagnostic Biotechnology Du-Pont) using WHO criteria.
RESULTS: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: Sera from
Romanian subjects were correctly detected by ELISA kits under
consideration, similar O.C. with those reported by WHO laboratories
being obtained. In case of out-of-date kits validation is not a
sufficiently reliable criterium for their use (too many obtained results
are found in the grey zone and an exceedingly high dispersion of data is
reported when delta values are calculated).
